On October 14th, 2023, Sidewalk Science Center stood atop the rim of Crater Lake, an ancient volcano in Oregon. Ahead of us, the Sun and Moon would soon produce an Annular Solar Eclipse, commonly called a "Ring of Fire" eclipse. Clouds spoiled the spectacle, but the vista did not.


Featured in the photo, our Celestron NexStar 4SE with a solar filter and camera to record the eclipse. About 5 feet separated the telescope from the 600-foot cliffside drop to the lake below.
